The Power of Telling the Truth

You have nothing to hide if you tell the truth.

If only it were that simple. Successful people lie. Unsuccessful people lie. Lies come in all shapes and sizes – even colors (white lies).

When it comes to effective communication, lies, or even exaggerations, often have a negative impact on the very listeners that you are trying to persuade, influence, and understand.

While people distort the truth for many well-intentioned reasons (such as, avoiding conflict, hurting someone else’s feelings, and rocking the boat), lies are a major culprit in creating ineffective communications and weakening relationships.

To communicate effectively:
  1. Be honest: With the majority of our messages being transferred through our body language, the more your thoughts align with your words and gestures, the greater trust you will create with your audience. Authenticity on its own is a powerful communication tool.

  2. Let Go Of Your Ego: Even though you believe that you are doing the right thing by not sharing bad news, difficult information, or constructive feedback, give the gift of compassion and trust by sharing truthfully what you are thinking.
